AKA is one of Thomas Gun’s most popular urban streetwear brands
, season after season they keep bringing more and more fashion-forward designs
to the table.
The brand was born in Manchester and is designed by Phil Pearce learnt everything he know about fashion from the streets of Manchester’s ‘artistic underbelly, where style was being dictated by the explosively creative fringe.’
Throughout Pearce’s life he’s had an obsession with music, therefore his main inspiration and drive in the fashion industry has come from the individual styling of these music moguls and icons.
‘He wanted to be a style started, not a follower. A creator of cool.’
The AKA designer defines his own personal style as ‘polished grit’ which can be seen seeping into his designs – quality and integrity of are of the upmost importance to him. Add this to tenacity, approachability, street sense
and the strong desire to stand out in the crowd and you have AKA.
The above is the ‘DNA of AKA’.
AKA stands for ‘Also Known As’, which was chosen from the focus that ‘new names are often taken by big personas to fit their true identities and not their birthright.’
The concept behind the brands designs and stylings
as a whole is to create easily interchangeable outfits
using layered pieces – allowing people to fit the garments into their own personal style to convey their own identity.
‘AKA was created for people who reach beyond the easily attainable bounds.’
AKA produces and manufactures their clothing in factories in Portugal where much attention is paid to the quality of the products, detail and old world craftsmanship. The combination of expert tailoring with a twist of modern innovations in textiles, finishes and dying techniques creates a polished, textural and interesting garment.
